3 Reasons CIOs Need Scenario Planning

 

Daniel W. Rasmus

 

Daniel W. Rasmus is the former head of thought leadership marketing for Microsoft Office and was a Vice President of Research at Forrester Research. He is the Founder and Principal Analyst at Serious Insights, a boutique analyst firm focused on helping businesses navigate the new world of work, and individuals master the art of thought leadership.

The author of Listening to the Future, Dan is a strategist and industry analyst who has helped clients put their future in context. Rasmus uses scenarios to analyze trends in society, technology, economics, the environment, and politics in order to discover implications used to develop and refine products, services and experiences. He leverages this work and methodology for content development, workshops and for professional development.

In his latest book, Management by Design, Rasmus proposes an innovative new methodology for work experience design. His thoughts about the future of work have appeared recently in Chief Learning Officer Magazine, Talent Management,  Government eLearning!, KMWorld,  TabletPC. Rasmus has written several articles that created viral internet activity including 10 Lessons from Angry Birds That Can Make You a Better CIO, Ten Lessons You Can Learn About Innovation by Studying Lady Gaga and Management Maxims From Kim Kardashian.

Prior to the founding of Serious Insights, Rasmus was the Director of Business Insights at Microsoft Corporation, where he helped the company envision how people will work in the future.  Rasmus developed the Microsoft Office Information Worker Board of the Future, and was the Center for Information Work’s creative leader. Before joining Microsoft, Rasmus was Vice President and Research Director for Collaboration and Knowledge Management at Forrester Research Inc., and served as the Chief Knowledge Officer of Forrester’s Giga Information Group Subsidiary. Most recently, Rasmus served as Chief Marketing Officer at GlobalEnglish.

Rasmus is an internationally recognized speaker. He has addressed audiences at Enterprise 2.0, CeBIT, UBTech, The Front End of Innovation, The National Association of Workforce Boards, ProjectWorld, KMWorld, SAE International, Computers and Libraries, The CIO Association of Canada and Future Trends.

Rasmus is also a well-respected writer on technology, popular culture, and business. Before moving the majority of reviews to SeriousInsights.net, he was a regular contributor to GeekWire,  iPhone Life, and PopMatters. He also held editorial positions at PC AI, Object Magazine, Manufacturing Systems, and Distribute Object Magazine. Rasmus attended the University of California at Santa Cruz and received a certificate in intelligent systems engineering from the University of California at Irvine. He is the former Visiting Liberal Arts Fellow at Bellevue College in Bellevue, WA where he continues to teach social media. Rasmus has also served as a member of the Faculty Academy at Pinchot University in Seattle, WA.
